One year ago, Japan, one of the America's closest allies, suffered an earthquake with a record seismic magnitude of 9.0. The resulting tsunami, with waves reaching 60 feet, caused devastating damage, as well as immediate world wide media attention; 15,854 precious lives were lost, and 3,274 remain missing. The catastrophe raised many questions, including proper preparation for disasters and safety issues for nuclear power and its future. March 11, 2012 marked the one-year anniversary of Japan's greatest natural disaster.

Please join us to personally meet and listen to Consul General Niimi discuss the state of US-Japan relations, as well as the impact and recovery after the earthquake and tsunami; one year later.
