Charter Donors
                   

On March 11, 2011, the Japan America Society of Southern California created the 2011 Japan Relief Fund, a disaster relief and recovery fund to aid victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and resulting tsunami waves.  With the funds that have been generously donated so far, we have earmarked $845,000 to six nonprofit organizations in Japan on the front lines of relief, recovery and reconstruction in Tohoku.

Japan ’s recovery is expected to take five years or more.  With this in mind, the Japan America Society of Southern California is working to gauge the long-term needs of those affected by the disaster with the goal of supporting organizations that will contribute to longer-term recovery and reconstruction.  As long as individuals, corporations and foundations show interest in supporting the longer-term recovery and reconstruction process in Japan, the Japan America Society will keep the 2011 Japan Relief Fund open for contributions.  As we have seen in the past in places like the Gulf Coast in the U.S.and in Haiti , among other places, the need is great not just in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, but also in the longer-term recovery and reconstruction process.

All of your generous tax-deductible contributions go to organizations that directly help victims recover from the devastating effects of the earthquake and tsunami waves that struck Japan on March 11, 2011.  In addition to providing support to the above mentioned three organizations, funds will also be used to help in the longer term recovery and reconstruction.

The Japan America Society of Southern California is a 501(c)(3) educational and charitable organization, Federal Tax ID #95–2021853.  Accordingly, donations to the 2011 Japan Relief Fund should qualify for charitable contribution tax deduction.
