Ashinaga Ikueikai: LA Marathon and Appreciation and Farewell Reception

  • Sunday, March 18, 2012
  • Monday, March 19, 2012
  • LA Marathon & JACCC Garden Room (Little Tokyo, CA)
Fifteen young athletes from a non-profit organization, Ashinaga Ikueikai, will be participating in the LA marathon as a fundraiser on March 18, 2012.

Ashinaga, named after an American novel, Daddy Long-Leg, is a recognized non-profit in Japan, which has provided emotional, educational and financial support to children who lost their parents/guardian to some sort of tragedy over the last 40 years. After the 1995 Kobe Earthquake, Ashinaga built a facility called, Rainbow House, to care for and support affected children, which helped many of them to not only survive the trauma but also to become functioning adults.

The students will participate in the L.A. Marathon with their fundraising campaign for the construction of “Tohoku Rainbow House” to house thousands of newly-born orphans in the disaster area under the sponsorship of Ashinaga Ikueikai in Japan.

The Japanese government and Ashinaga counted more than 2,000 kids who lost one or both parents or guardians by the disaster. They plan to build 5 Rainbow Houses in the 5 affected prefectures of Tohoku.

Run with Ashinaga: If you or someone you now are registered to run the marathon, please join the Team Ashinaga to make their presence bigger.

For more information on how you can support them, contact Izumi Tanaka at 310-749-9091 or email at AshinagaLA@me.com
